We celebrate the full year of Jewish holidays in ways that are joyful, soulful, and inspiring. Our community offers many services, social events and educational opportunities for all ages.

Rosh Hashanah (Sept-Oct)
A celebration of the Jewish New Year. Shomrei: musical service, dinner and Jazz reception on Selichot (a week before Rosh Hashanah), traditional Rosh Hashanah holiday services, family services, teen discussions, free babysitting, community shofar blowing (if not Shabbat), Tashlich (casting off) service at Edgemont Park. Guests are welcome for all Holiday services (free), rsvp is required.
Yom Kippur (Sept-Oct)
The day of atonement and reconciliation. Shomrei: traditional holiday services, family services, teen discussions, free babysitting, community shofar-blowing (if not Shabbat) community break-the-fast. Guests Welcome for all Holiday services (free), rsvp is required.
Sukkot (Sept-Oct)
The feast of Booths - the season of our rejoicing. Shomrei: communal building and decorating of our shared Sukkah, traditional Sukkkot services, children's and adults' social events in the Sukkah, Hoshana Raba service on the 7th day.
Simchat Torah (Oct)
We complete the cycle of Torah reading and begin another. Shomrei: join with area synagogues for singing and dancing with the Torah in the evening and traditional services in the morning
Hanukkah (Dec-Jan)
The victory of the Maccabees and the festival of lights. Shomrei: Hanukkah Party, crafts, games, homemade latkes, donuts and dinner, lighting of 100 menorahs, songs and Israeli dancing.
Tu BiShvat (Jan-Feb)
The new year for the trees. Traditionally, trees are planted on this day. Shomrei: Family program, nature walk and hands-on activities related to the environment and stewardship of the Earth.
Purim (Feb-Mar)
Purim celebrates the survival of the Jewish People in the Book of Esther. Shomrei: Purim carnival, costumes, Megillah reading, and Shpiel (performed by kids) with games, friends and fun for all!
Passover (Mar-Apr)
Our joyous commemoration of the Exodus and our freedom from slavery. Traditional holiday services, lots of matzah, and a seder matching program.
Lag BaOmer (May)
The 33rd day of the Omer (between Passover and Shavuot). Shomrei: Bonfire, kid's archery, fairy hair, glow sticks and kosher grilling.
Shavuot (May-Jun)
"The Festival of Weeks" is when we celebrate the giving of the Torah at Sinai. Shomrei: community Shavuot Tikkun with late-night studying with other local synagogues. Traditional holiday services and dairy treats.
Tish’a B’Av (Jul-Aug)
Commemoration of the destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple. Shomrei: Erev Tisha B’Av Service with the reading of Eicha (Lamentations).
