This week we had two phases to our meal prep. On Monday, Shirley Grill met Jordan in the kitchen after school.
Fern Heinig planned the meal and provided a shopping list. Lou Hammerman and Sarita Eisenberg were going to do the shopping, but the Shomrei office staff offered to take care of it.
Three summers ago, I was lying on my couch in terrible pain from messing up my back. Every time I moved, I was yelling out loud (it is good I live alone or I would have scared someone), It was a beautiful day and all I wanted was to be outside enjoying the summer, playing golf or tennis or anything, other than being stuck lying on my couch. A very efficient and congenial crew met in the Shomrei kitchen to prepare a hearty and nutritious meal for 52 MESH guests. With direction from Captain Lynne Kurzweil, experienced helpers Susan Rosenblatt, Alex Kent and Leslie Billet prepared Spice Rubbed Baked Chicken, Roasted Seasoned Potatoes and Oven Grilled Mixed Vegetables. This past Tuesday evening, twenty-five Shomrei members gathered in the social hall to learn about the national shift in immigration policy and the impact of those policies on the lives of people throughout the nation and in nearby communities. The ad hoc committee responsible for the program felt it was especially timely in light of the upcoming celebration of Passover and the holiday’s focus on freedom and our people’s story of persecution.
