When the Temple in Jerusalem was destroyed, the rabbis wanted to understand when the unraveling began. Was it when Nebuchadnezer breached the Temple walls? Or was it when Moses came down the mountain and saw the people dancing with the golden calf and smashed the Ten Commandments to smithereens? Ultimately, the rabbis say the Temple was destroyed because of sinat chinam, because of internal animosity. (more…)
