JLC (Hebrew School) – Deep Roots, New Sprouts!

Hebrew school nurtures a child’s Jewish identity, instilling a love for traditions, history, and community. It builds Hebrew literacy, prayer fluency, and cultural understanding, fostering confidence in Jewish practice. Through engaging lessons and friendships, children develop a lifelong connection to their heritage, preparing them for bar/bat mitzvah and beyond.

Kindergarten - 1st Grade
An engaging introduction to Jewish values, holidays, and Shabbat! Through singing, experiential Torah stories, and hands-on activities, children explore Israel and Jewish traditions in a joyful and interactive environment. Our multi-sensory approach keeps young learners engaged and connected with their peers and teachers.

2nd - 7th Grade
Our curriculum centers on community, especially on Shabbat morning. We embrace the rhythm of the Jewish week through davening, Torah study, and meaningful peer connections.

Prayer sessions use hand motions to deepen understanding, while interactive games reinforce Torah, Jewish history, and Israel. Holidays add new layers of learning each year, and students engage in discussions, debates, and creative parsha plays.

On Wednesdays, small-group Hebrew instruction builds confidence in decoding, reading, and prayer. Students also explore Jewish ethics, values, parsha, and history, creating a well-rounded learning experience.

B'nai Mitzvah
Our JLC students have built lasting friendships and a strong community. At Shomrei, we emphasize both individual and cohort experiences, bringing B'nai Mitzvah families together.

From 5th to 8th grade, students join social and educational gatherings and attend each other’s B'nai Mitzvah celebrations. Families support one another by ushering, sharing resources, and inviting all cohort members.

In addition to individual mitzvah projects, there are three cohort volunteer opportunities—one for families and two for teens. Families are encouraged to strengthen connections at home and in the Shomrei community. (Learn more about B'nai Mitzvah at Shomrei)

Hinei Mah Tov Family Service
(monthly, Saturday morning, Sept-Jun).
Hinei Mah Tov (How good it is!) is a family service geared towards children (2nd-7th grade) and their parents, grandparents, and caregivers. All JLC students attend, but visitors with and without kids are always welcome to join us. This is a highly participatory Shabbat service, structured for learners, incorporating prayer, song, and discussion.
