Editor’s Note: John shared his conversion story during Shabbat services on May 23, continuing our tradition of inviting a different congregant each year to share their journey when we read from the Book of Ruth on Shavuot.
A happy foursome, including Linda Wieseneck, Leslie Billet, Julie Weinstein and Captain Lynne Kurzweil headed to the Shomrei kitchen on Tuesday afternoon to get the job done. The meal, which has become a standard, included Dry Rub Roasted Chicken, seasoned roasted potatoes, roasted mixed vegetables, a fresh roll, a juicy orange, Oreo cookies and a water bottle. We made sure to include a condiment cup of ketchup for dipping.
As we near the end of Jewish American Heritage Month, I’d like to share with you a variety of books about the Jewish American experience. The books cover many genres and subjects.
The Lampert Library’s collection has many fine books about Jews and the Jewish experience in the United States, going back to New Amsterdam, where Jews insisted that they be included in the civic responsibilities of the community.
In addition, Jews fought in every war that the US was involved in, serving at a much higher rate than their percentage of the population.
AP tests preempted Teen MESH this week but Fern, along with dedicated helpers, Carol Blau and Leslie Billet, stepped up at the last minute. (more…)
