From Captain Alex Kent

Despite the burst water pipe, Shomrei was able to host a full complement of 21 MESH guests on Tuesday night.  Chef Lynne Kurzweil fashioned a robust dinner, creatively using a lot of existing food before the synagogue has to shut down for repairs.  The meal began with split pea and vegetable soup accompanied by challah rolls and butter.  The main course was roasted cod, rice pilaf, and string beans with tomatoes, along with a green salad.  Dessert was fruit salvaged from a previous event, along with assorted pastries.

The sous-chef was Susan Rosenblatt, and assistance was provided by a large group of teenagers including Pacey, Siona, Sara, Margalit, Elana, as well as two young men from the Montclair Jewish Workshop, Owen and Noah and their adult chaperone Simon.  Congregants June Zimmerman and Alex Kent rounded out the crew.  Much dishwashing was accomplished!   As always, the MESH staff, Adrienne and Joe, were friendly and competent.

Message from MESH Co-Chairs, Lyne Kurzweil & Aileen Grossberg:

During the time that our Shomrei building is closed due to restoration (approximately 2-3 weeks) we will be providing food on Tuesday evenings at Union Baptist Church, 12-14 Midland Avenue, Montclair.  Union Baptist is very close to Shomrei on Midland Avenue between Claremont and Bloomfield Avenues.  There are kitchen facilities available at the church for heating, however, we will need to prepare food at home or purchase food and bring it there.  The food we bring does not have to be kosher. Specific instructions will be provided to those who sign up.
While on location at Union Baptist, we request that our volunteers be limited to older teens (15 and above) and adults.
Please continue to use the Signup Genius to volunteer: shomrei.org/mesh
