Mesh Cafe Feb 13, 2018
On a beautiful winter evening, 21 guests including 3 children gathered at Shomrei’s MESH Cafe housed temporarily at the Union Baptist Church.
Our guests enjoyed a hearty meal of black bean soup, salad, salmon teriyaki with brown rice, carrots and broccoli. This filling meal ended with brownies and clementines. Our vegetarian guests received a serving of protein from hard cooked eggs.
This bountiful meal was created by several MESH cookies: Jennifer Moses, Susan Rosenblatt, Bridget Placek, and Aileen Grossberg. Staffers Adrienne and Joe kept us safe and organized. Interns Rebecca and Siobhan, along with volunteers Sarah, Teddy and Amalia kept the food service moving along so that we were able to vacate the hall in time for overnight winter respite for the area homeless.
A hit of the evening was the battery operated salt and pepper set used in absence of individual packets. Like magic, said one of the guests who appreciated the extra seasoning. Everyone went home with full bellies and smiles on their faces.
Although we have adjusted to our new setting, we are hoping to return to Shomrei shortly. We are so grateful that Union Baptist Church has welcomed the Shomrei MESH Cafe so graciously.
