Mesh Cafe Mar 20, 2018
From Captain Alex Kent:
The Shomrei MESH Cafe hosted 23 guests, including 3 children, the night before Winter Storm Toby. They got in a warm, delicious meal before the onslaught, prepared by Jennifer Moses at her home, and delivered to Shomrei.
The meal began with a tomato bisque, made with chick peas, with a side of bread and spread. The main course was flounder topped with a pureed vegetable sauce, mac and cheese with peas, and a green salad. Dessert was cantaloupe and pineapple with two types of cookies. Teen Shomrei helpers included regulars Sarah, Davida, and Amalia, along with Montclair State interns Rebecca and Siobhan, and the excellent MESH staff of Adrienne, Joe, and Joe. Adult volunteers included Alex Kent, Lynne Kurzweil, and Susan Rosenblatt. Best of all, with the dinner made off-site there were practically no dishes to do!
About MESH:
The MESH Cafe (Montclair Emergency Services for the Homeless) is a cooperative effort between the MESH organization and local synagogues and churches. Volunteers at each institution cook and serve hearty, nutritious meals for the hungry. Shomrei’s turn is on Tuesday nights. A good meal, and perhaps as important, social interaction and companionship offer respite to those who need it. Please help fulfill this crucial mitzvah by volunteering.
