Essex Together: An Update and Ways to Participate

I am happy to report that Shomrei is now a founding member of Essex Together, joining 10 other faith based and nonprofit organizations working to bring about change in the County.  The launch event was held on May 27th at Bethany Baptist Church in Newark and was a a life affirming night of music, presentations and sharing.

Here are highlights from the evening:

Close to 200 people joined in person, and over 66 people joined via livestream.

  • 79 People filled out Action Cards expressing interest in working on various issues such as criminal justice reform, education, and the environment.
  • 147 people filled out postcards to Executive County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo, Jr., pushing for the elimination of unnecessary fines, fees, warrants and detainers (which will be hand delivered to his office by a team of Essex Together leaders).

The following are next steps and ways to participate:

  • The Environment – On June 26th there will be a zoom meeting to discuss exploring green energy options.
