This poem was written for Bruce’s 80th birthday in March 2019.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO BRUCE BAFF

Bruce Baff
Makes me laugh.
With his dignified manner and sonorous voice
As a dinner guest he is an excellent choice
Bruce sees what is funny in every situation
In celebration
And with animation
Humor is his exploration
Of topics and themes that others may not think about
Whereas Bruce has already figured them out.
Bruce also has a serious side that is very intense.
His logic and thinking most always makes sense.
He is sensitive and emotional and reacts to all events
Discussing his comments and analysis is time well spent.

Yet, sometimes, on the most serious of subjects Bruce will pretend to opine
But really he is looking for a spot to deliver an intensely funny line
His jokes are so clever it sometimes takes a minute or two
For the humor, the pun, the inuendo to come through.
In short, being with Bruce is entertaining and fun
Comic & serious–all the emotions in one.

Bruce, we thank you for your friendship from year to year
And we wish you a happy birthday loud and clear
May you stay healthy and sound
With your feet on the ground
Your humor intact
Even if it is abstract
Enjoying your wonderful family by your side
Together with your lovely bride.
