MESH1

From Captain Alex Kent

Home Sweet Home!  Shomrei’s MESH Cafe was back on campus this week, serving 22 guests including several children.  They were rewarded with a lavish feast that included Purim elements.

Lynne Kurzweil and Aileen Grossberg were co-chefs and they made a great meal which included re-purposing some of the food from the Syrian Supper Club kiddush.  The appetizer was a Middle Eastern plate with dips, chips, and veggies, followed by a vegetable pasta soup.  Main course was zaatar garlic salmon, roasted broccoli and tomatoes, rice with lentils (Syrian leftover), and pita bread with olive oil and sumac.  The dessert was fresh fruit and Hamantaschen.

The guests also got a Shaloch Manot bag, as Purim began the next day.  The bag included a fruit cup, a clementine, and a Hamantaschen.  During the pre-meal introduction, High school Congregant Sarah explained the Purim holiday to the guests, and the reason for the Shalach Manot bags.

In addition to Sarah, teen helpers included Hailey, who brought along a contingent of Glenfield friends to help: Maya, Juliet, Sophie, Mirabelle, and Juniper.  MESH interns Siobhan and Rebecca were on hand, and MESH staffers Adrienne, Bonny and Joe ran the show in their usual efficient manner.    Susan Rosenblatt assisted with cooking and dishes.

A Plea from MESH Co-Chairs Lynne Kurweil & Aileen Grossberg:

Calling all Cooks!!! We need you to sign up for the coming weeks.  The schedule is empty and we need help….

If Tuesdays don’t work for you and/or you don’t feel comfortable cooking at Shomrei…. no problem!  Cook at home, in advance, just use kosher ingredients and double wrap in foil for reheating at Shomrei.  Or, buy salad in a bag or fruit or dessert/bread… as long as it is certified kosher.  We will help you plan….

The same core group has been doing the brunt of the work and…..reaping the joy of performing this mitzvah!   We want to share with you!

We have plenty of helpers to do last minute prep and serve….. but we need more help with the food.

Thank you in advance
