Report from Captain Lynne Kurzweil:

On a beautiful June evening we welcomed 24 guests to our cafe and provided 3 additional takeout meals.  The outstanding team of Sarita Eisenberg and Sarah Steindel prepared a scrumptious summer meal, repurposing some leftover kiddish items graciously donated by the Greengrass family.

IMG_0159First up was tuna salad with tomatoes, cucumbers and pita chips.  Main course was Bbq Chicken, Roasted Potato Salad and a tossed salad including everything but the kitchen sink (artichoke hearts, corn, tomatoes, cukes, cabbage, lettuce, spinach plus more). Challah slices from Shomrei’s endless supply and spread.  Dessert was Chocolate and Cinnamon Babka, assorted mini pastries and fresh cantaloupe and watermelon.  The meal was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Lou Hammerman manned the sink, in addition to helping with food prep and serving.  Super Shomrei teen, Amalia, pitched in with serving, scrubbing and then some sporting her perpetual smile.  As always, our wonderful MESH staffers, Adrienne, Joe and Joe, made sure that everything ran smoothly.  Only two more weeks before we break for the summer.

About MESH:

The MESH Cafe (Montclair Emergency Services for the Homeless) is a cooperative effort between the MESH organization and local synagogues and churches.  Volunteers at each institution cook and serve hearty, nutritious meals for the hungry. Shomrei’s turn is on Tuesday nights. A good meal, and perhaps as important, social interaction and companionship offer respite to those who need it. Please help fulfill this crucial mitzvah by volunteering.
