Vacation Reminder
Don’t forget to check the Lampert Library for books to take along on your vacation. Even if you don’t want to bring hard copies of books, check out the new books for items you might want to read on your e-reader.
We have lots of award winners and are constantly putting new books on the shelf.
Look for The Other Woman, Daniel Silva’s latest, by next week as well as Gateway to the Moon, an unusual family saga that spans 500 years (1492 to 1992) and two continents.
For kids, there’s Viva, Rose!, set in early 20th century Texas and featuring Pancho Villa and his gang. Jane Yolen’s latest, Mapping the Bones, a Holocaust book with shades of Hansel and Gretel, will also be featured shortly.
Yolen, author of more than 300 books, including many that won awards, was the creator of the modern Holocaust fiction books for young readers. Yolen’s books use fairy tales and fantasy to create the feeling of the horrors of the Holocaust while removing some of the fear through the obviously invented setting. The July 23 issue of the New Yorker has an informative article about Holocaust themed books for young readers and how Yolen has changed the genre and her own approach to the subject. It is well-worth reading. (https://newyorker.com/magazine/2018/07/23/how-should-childrens-books-deal-with-the-holocaust)
Summer is a great time to catch up missed books and for young readers the more they read the less they will be affected by “summer side,” that phenomenon where students slip back a few months in their skills.
The library never goes on vacation. It’s always here for you.
