Paintings From The Pages of The Torah

Now Showing in The Shomrei Gallery: The Art of Shomrei Congregant, Jennifer Moses

When Jennifer Moses first joined the Shabbat morning Torah study session at Shomrei, the last thing she expected was that, from the often mysterious words of Hebrew on the pages of our Eitz Chaim, images would dance in her inner eye. But inspired by the weekly study sessions, she began to paint those stories that most urgently captivated her imagination.

Thus the Garden, Exodus, Abraham’s struggles, and Moses’s exhortations to the Children of Israel are depicted in this series of paintings that sprung from the artist’s paintbrush as if the paintbrush was dictating its own brushwork, color, and line. The paintings mix humor with holy writ and irreverence with balance, Southern Gospel exuberance with Midrashic interpretation.

Jennifer will discuss her work as part of Shomrei’s Shabbat Spotlight Series, on May 29, 2015 at 8pm.
