Taking care is one way to show your love. Another way is letting people take good care of you when you need it.

The Mensch Squad

The Mensch Squad provides a network of support for members of our community who need a helping hand at stressful times. When someone in our community needs help, we're there for them.

Dispatched and coordinated by email, our Mensch Squad volunteers visit the sick, drive Shomrei members to medical appointments, help put together shiva minyans, cook meals for new parents and members sidelined by injuries or illness, deliver Shabbat dinners to those in mourning, provide rides to shul, and much more.

Our Mensch Squad numbers have grown in the last few years, but the number of those in need has grown as well. To ensure that there is always a mensch available – or two or three – when members need us, we invite everyone to join our ranks, whether you have a little time to spare or a lot. Every act of kindness helps bring us closer to achieving a kehillah kedushah – a sacred community.

Kiddush Prep

Shomrei volunteers help prepare on Friday the Kiddush lunch we all enjoy on Saturday after services. No volunteering task is more social than team-work in the kitchen!

Meal Sharing

Community members volunteer to open their homes for our Share a Seder, Share a Shabbat, Shabbat Your Way or Taste of Shabbat program. Whether you can accommodate 1 or 51 guests, our goal is that no one should have to be alone for a holiday or Shabbat meal. Sharing meals together is a mitzvah!
