From Captain Lynne Kurzweil

Shomrei MESH Cafe on location welcomed 17 grateful guests to Union Baptist Church on Midland Avenue in Montclair.  Our Ace Team led by Sarita Eisenberg and including Sarah and Charles Steindel prepared the food at Sarita’s home. The piping hot meal was quickly packed up and transported to the church. During the opening remarks guests were told that even though Shomrei always prepares homemade meals, this meal was, in fact, prepared in Sarita’s home. Applause erupted even before the menu was announced!

image3(1)Guests enjoyed chopped salad with corn and tortilla chips as the starter. Main course was delicious and hearty turkey chili over rice with roasted broccoli and carrots and more chips. Sliced bread and spread completed the entree. Dessert was fresh fruit salad and Oreo cookies.  Sarita, Sarah and Charles, along with  our outstanding and dedicated teen helpers, Amalia and Teddy, and MESH staffers Adrienne and Joe, all worked together to ensure that everything ran smoothly in unfamiliar surroundings.  And, back at the Eisenberg-Hammerman home, Lou did an outstanding job with the cleanup!

Next week we’re again at Union Baptist.

Healthy Regards,
Lynne

Message from MESH Co-Chairs, Lyne Kurzweil & Aileen Grossberg:

image2(1)During the time that our Shomrei building is closed due to restoration (approximately 2-3 weeks) we will be providing food on Tuesday evenings at Union Baptist Church, 12-14 Midland Avenue, Montclair.  Union Baptist is very close to Shomrei on Midland Avenue between Claremont and Bloomfield Avenues.  There are kitchen facilities available at the church for heating, however, we will need to prepare food at home or purchase food and bring it there.  The food we bring does not have to be kosher. Specific instructions will be provided to those who sign up.

While on location at Union Baptist, we request that our volunteers be limited to older teens (15 and above) and adults.

Please continue to use the Signup Genius to volunteer: shomrei.org/mesh
