Mesh Cafe Feb 6, 2018
From Captain Lynne Kurzweil
Meanwhile back at Union Baptist Church we welcomed 22 guests to Shomrei’s MESH Cafe. Coming inside to a warm and welcoming environment our guests were treated first to Merrill Silver’s delicious Carrot, Parsnip and Potato Soup. Main course was a very hearty Beef Stew prepared by Arden Epstein. Fresh French baguette provided by Shirley Grill accompanied the stew. Chocolate dipped chocolate chip cookies and clementines, also provided by Shirley, ended the meal on a sweet note.
Our terrific teen helpers were Amalia and Sarah. MSU interns Rebecca and Siobhan are great and along with Adrienne and Joe, the evening was a true success. Several of our regular guests asked when we would be back at Shomrei, as eager to return as we are. At the end of the evening, one lady who comes every week thanked me for always providing such delicious food. She wanted to say goodbye because this would be her last time at MESH. I asked where she was going and she said “I’m finally getting out of this mess”. She told me she had a friend who was helping her get settled. Our wish for all of our guests is that they are able to improve their situations and not require the services that MESH provides.
We are looking for Cooks the weeks of 2/20 and 2/27 and going forward. Food must be prepared at home until we are back at Shomrei. Please contact myself or Aileen if you can help.
While on location at Union Baptist, we request that our volunteers be limited to older teens (15 and above) and adults.
Please continue to use the Signup Genius to volunteer: shomrei.org/mesh
