From Captain Lynne Kurzweil

We welcomed 19 guests to Shomrei’s MESH Cafe held at Union Baptist Church.  This time, two rounds of applause…. first when our guests were told that we will be back in our own building next week and second when they learned about the delicious menu. 

First course was Linda Ariel’s scrumptious Mushroom and Barley Soup followed by Merrill Silver’s delicious and colorful Kale Salad with oranges, apples, cranberries and orange vinaigrette.  Both courses were devoured and seconds were enjoyed by most.  Main course was Arden Epstein’s famous Pulled Bbq Chicken served over a yummy brioche bun and topped with coleslaw-accompanied by Aileen Grossberg’s amazing roasted and smashed potatoes.  All finger licking good!

The meal ended with fresh cantaloupe and pineapple provided by Aileen and three kinds of homemade cookies lovingly baked by Hailey and her friends Lilli and Juniper.  Helpers tonight were Amalia and Sarah along with the MESH team of Adrienne and Joe and MSU interns Becca and Siobhan.  It was a great night with good spirit all around.

The best news!!!  Our MESH Cafe will be back at Shomrei next Tuesday, 2/27/18!!!!  Our signup is almost totally clear, so please check your calendars and signup to help at shomrei.org/mesh.  We mainly need Cooks and Captains. Food can be prepared at home as long as all certified kosher ingredients are used.  Bring your contribution to Shomrei double wrapped in foil and it can be heated in the oven if need be.  If you would like to prepare part of the meal, let Aileen or Lynne know and we will coordinate and assist you with the particulars.  Thank you in advance!
