Mesh Cafe April 24, 2018
From Captain Shirley Grill:
On a perfect spring evening, the fabulous Shomrei team served a finger lickin’, delicious meal to our MESH Guests. We had 24 guests, including 3 children, who feasted on a fabulous barbeque chicken dish, prepared by our greatly admired John Lasiter! When the captain, Shirley Grill, announced the menu and the chef, the guests applauded!
The dinner started with wonderful humus and chips (who can remember BH…before Humus!), followed by barbeque chicken, served with thick sliced roasted potatoes, home made cole slaw and fresh baked corn bread. Our Mesh coordinator, Adrienne, cut up the chicken so there was seconds for all who wanted more. And desert was homemade chocolate brownies–hot out of the oven with non dairy ice cream melting on top…mmmm good!
The senior chef was John Lasiter, aided by Adrienne Lasiter, Sam, Sarah, and Susan Rosenblatt. The front of the house was managed by Adrienne and a team of MSU students.
It was a wonderful evening.
Calling all Captains and Cooks!
We need you! The schedule is totally blank going forward. As you can see from the reports we tend to have a wealth of helpers to serve, etc. but a small handful of volunteers taking responsibility for preparing the food. Please signup at the link or email below.
About MESH:
The MESH Cafe (Montclair Emergency Services for the Homeless) is a cooperative effort between the MESH organization and local synagogues and churches. Volunteers at each institution cook and serve hearty, nutritious meals for the hungry. Shomrei’s turn is on Tuesday nights. A good meal, and perhaps as important, social interaction and companionship offer respite to those who need it. Please help fulfill this crucial mitzvah by volunteering.
