MESH Report 2/5/2019
Report from Captain Sarita Eisenberg:
We had another full house with 24 guests at the MESH Café as well as providing 5 take-away meals. Chef John Lasiter prepared a sumptuous meal with assistance from Beryl Hiller. The meal started with meat empanadas and coleslaw. Next course was an overflowing plate of barbeque chicken, roasted potatoes provencal, more coleslaw, and corn bread. For desert there was brownies and ice cream. Teen volunteers Amalia, Elana, Orly, and Jonah assisted with preparing and plating the food while Lou Hammerman manned the sink.
MESH staffers Adrienne, Bonnie and Darren took charge of setting up, serving, and clearing the tables assisted by yours truly and our teen volunteers. Joe handled security downstairs. John and Beryl scrubbed down the counters and carts, leaving everything cleaner than they found it.
It had been a long time since my last MESH evening, too long. I’m already signed up for another evening.
About MESH:
The Carol Starr MESH Cafe at Shomrei (Montclair Emergency Services for the Homeless) is a cooperative effort between the MESH organization and local synagogues and churches. Volunteers at each institution cook and serve hearty, nutritious meals for the hungry. Shomrei’s turn is on Tuesday nights. A good meal, and perhaps as important, social interaction and companionship offer respite to those who need it. Please help fulfill this crucial mitzvah by volunteering.
