MESH Report Jan 21, 2020
From Captain Fern Heinig
Last night, it was cold. We had a full house plus, whom we let in early, so they could get out of the cold. We also provide three take away meals so we served a total of 30 people. Note: we had four non fish eating vegetarians, which was a little of a challenge.
Volunteers from the Peoplehood Project were; Amit, Liz, Marcia, Craig, Marty, Hope, and Rachel. Shomrei teens Orly and Alana joined us with Ben, a teen from Buzz Aldrin Middle School. The MESH staff was Bonny, Khari, and Darryl on security.
Last night’s menu: Egg Salad, Hearty Vegetable Soup, Baked Salmon with Tzatziki, Cheesy Cauliflower Casserole, Oven Homefries Potatoes, Cupcake and tangerine
The Chaos Crew in on for next week.
A Note from Fern:
Dear MESHies,
Last night I captained MESH and called upon a group I am involved with to volunteer to be the crew. None of the crew are from Shomrei and came from all over Essex county to help. Not only were our guests grateful for the wonderful meal that was prepared and shared, all my volunteers want to do again, and bring other family members. This experience was very meaningful for them and they want to share the experience with others.
As many of you know, my monthly Chaos crew is also mostly non Shomrei members who enjoy the experience of MESH. To increase our pool of volunteers, please think about reaching out to other groups in your life, ie: friend cliques, boards you may serve on, work groups, volunteer groups. Through all my years volunteering for MESH, every new person I have brought to help, is more than willing to do again.
Cheers,
Fern
About MESH:
The Carol Starr MESH Cafe at Shomrei (Montclair Emergency Services for the Homeless) is a cooperative effort between the MESH organization and local synagogues and churches. Volunteers at each institution cook and serve hearty, nutritious meals for the hungry. Shomrei’s turn is on Tuesday nights. A good meal, and perhaps as important, social interaction and companionship offer respite to those who need it. Please help fulfill this crucial mitzvah by volunteering.
