MESH feb 18 1

From Captain Linda Ariel:

It was a hectic night at the Carol Starr MESH cafe this past Tuesday evening. We had 25 guests with two meals given as take out to people for whom we did not have room. Many of the people served have become familiar faces and responded to us at Shomrei with warmth and gratitude.

Co-chefs Sarah Steindel and Sarita Eisenberg prepared a wholesome meal, beginning with freshly made lentil soup with bread and margarine on the side, followed by barbecued chicken and roasted carrots, broccoli, and potatoes. The dessert was fresh fruit salad and oreos. We had the enthusiastic support of volunteers, Aimee Brooks and Lou Hammerman, and a team of teens from both Shomrei and the Montclair High School, Hailey, Collin, Magdalena, Jordana, Jahiaida, and Jon. The MESH staff of Joe, Bonny and Rev were as always engaged with the guests and helpful to the Shomrei group.

About MESH:

The Carol Starr MESH Cafe at Shomrei (Montclair Emergency Services for the Homeless) is a cooperative effort between the MESH organization and local synagogues and churches.  Volunteers at each institution cook and serve hearty, nutritious meals for the hungry. Shomrei’s turn is on Tuesday nights. A good meal, and perhaps as important, social interaction and companionship offer respite to those who need it. Please help fulfill this crucial mitzvah by volunteering.
