MESH Report June 21, 2022
MESH Report June 21, 2022, From Chef Shirley Grill: On the first day of summer, yours truly, the appointed MESH chef was joined by two wonderful women: Aimee Brooks and Risa Bernstein in the preparation of a delicious meal for our MESH guests. Aimee took on salad making-she needed to leave earlier so she took the first course–salad prep-from the mixing of the ingredients to filling 20 salad containers. Aimee got the job done.
Risa-our novice sous chef-jumped in and took over all sides: penne pasta in a basil sauce and perfectly roasted carrots. Risa is also an efficient packer-setting up an assembly line that would have impressed Henry Ford! Risa got us over the finish line right on time! Shirley cooked the tilapia in a cheesy crust-really yummy! The packing was done with our usual efficiency-each bag efficiently and lovingly packed with: Salad, Pasta, Tilapia and Roasted Carrots, Pita bread, Cookies, Breakfast bar, banana and water.
As we worked, we had a lively discussion about how to encourage more people to do this important mitzvah. We agree that a small training “how not to be intimidated by Shomrei’s kitchen” is definitely a subject for the fall!
And special thanks Aileen Grossberg who left us just what we needed from Shomrei’s pantry; Ehud Klinger who always comes by to help shlep and pack and Carlos who makes sure we manage the ovens with care and helps with the clean up!
We have 1 more week to go before we break for the summer. There remains an opening 6/28 for helpers. Don’t miss this chance to join in on this important mitzvah to feed the hungry.
