MESH Report Nov 8, 2022

Through the generosity of the Rubin Family and in honor of Maya’s B’nai Mitzvah, our MESH guests were treated to a kosher deli feast! Lynne Kurzweil, with the able assistance of Aimee, Hailey and Collin, prepared 27 Corned Beef, Pastrami, Roast Beef and Turkey Combo sandwiches on Rye. Our three vegetarians enjoyed Veggie Wraps and Tuna Salad and Rye. Everyone received a nice portion of Cole Slaw and one of Potato Salad, a pickle/pickled tomato slice, a Banana, a yummy Oatmeal Butterscotch Bar homemade by Lindsay Sag and Jordan, a water bottle and a breakfast bar. Phew! Quite a full bag. Mr and Mrs Tyson picked up the bags by 4:30 pm along with some blankets donated by a friend of Fern Heinig. Recently we’ve had a few new volunteers sign up to help. The job becomes so much easier when we can spread the work around while we’re also spreading around the satisfaction of doing this important mitzvah.

Please Note:
MESH is holding a fundraiser next week. Please consider attending or buying tickets even if you can’t make it. Most of the proceeds will be used to support the MESH overnight respite program which provides a warm safe place for Montclair’s homeless population when the temperature dips below 32 degrees.

About MESH:
The Carol Starr MESH Cafe at Shomrei (Montclair Emergency Services for the Homeless) is a cooperative effort between the MESH organization and local synagogues and churches. While in-person service has been discontinued, we are providing hearty, nutritious take-out meals for the hungry. Shomrei’s turn is on Tuesday nights. Please help fulfill this crucial mitzvah by volunteering to help with food preparation or bagging or by making a donation at: shomrei.org/donate.
