MESH Report for June 24, 2025
Captain Sarah with her team of Charles Steindel, Julia Ruskin, and Ken Bannerman prepared the last MESH meal of the season.
On the menu were baked salmon served on a bed of warm couscous salad with chickpeas, roasted vegetables, fresh herbs, and a lemony dressing, with tzatziki sauce, a pita bread, and an orange and oreos for dessert. The vegan guests received the same meal except with baked tofu and vegan tzatziki.
Sarah and Charles delivered the meal to the Office, where Joe and several guests expressed appreciation for the meals.
We always take a break from preparing meals for MESH in July and August, however, those experiencing food insecurity do not enjoy the luxury of a summer vacation. As we have for the past two summers, Shomrei will once again fund two meals for 50 in July and two meals in August ($1000) from our MESH fund.
MESH remains open at the Office during the summer Monday through Saturday, 4:30–6:30 PM, and needs help to continue serving our unhoused and food-insecure neighbors. If you’re in town, please consider signing up to volunteer here.
We will restart our regular bimonthly meal prep at Shomrei in September.

Shomrei provides 50 meals to MESH on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month. We need volunteers to help prepare and pack the food.
For those interested in volunteering who are not available on Tuesday afternoons, we are brainstorming different ways to make it work. Let us know what would work for you.
Additionally, each Monday afternoon, we deliver any usable food leftover from Kiddish to MESH.

Volunteers are also welcome to help serve food 6 nights a week, Monday through Saturday, 4:30-6:30 pm at the MESH site, 619 Bloomfield Ave, Montclair.
