Mesh Cafe May 8, 2018
From Captain Lynne Kurzweil:
This Tuesday evening, we welcomed 20 guests to Shomrei’s MESH Cafe. Due to serendipitous events and some creative planning, the entire meal was put together with repurposed food, yet delicious, nutritious and enjoyed by our guests. Engineered by Executive Chef Lynne Kurzweil there was $0 additional expense for this meal.
First course was a smorgasbord salad plate including egg salad, tuna salad, chickpea salad, orzo salad and grilled vegetables accompanied by a challah knot roll. Next was Mediterranean Fish Stew over rice with lentils topped with a garlic crouton. Dessert was assorted cookies, ruggalah and brownies. Dedicated MESH volunteer and chief dishwasher Susan Rosenblatt ably assisted along with Shomrei teens Margalit and Elana. MESH staffers Adrienne, Joe and Mary made sure the evening ran smoothly. A good time was had by all.
About MESH:
The MESH Cafe (Montclair Emergency Services for the Homeless) is a cooperative effort between the MESH organization and local synagogues and churches. Volunteers at each institution cook and serve hearty, nutritious meals for the hungry. Shomrei’s turn is on Tuesday nights. A good meal, and perhaps as important, social interaction and companionship offer respite to those who need it. Please help fulfill this crucial mitzvah by volunteering.
