MESH Report 12/11/18

image1 (2)From Captain Lynne Kurzweil:

On a chilly Tuesday evening, we welcomed 24 grateful guests to the warm and nourishing Carol Starr MESH Cafe at Shomrei.  Four others enjoyed takeaway meals. Shomrei Master Chef John Lasiter prepared a sumptuous spread beginning with Sweet Kale Salad, challah and spread.  Main course was Braised Chicken with onions, garlic, lemon and herbs, Smashed Potatoes and Roasted Broccoli.  Dessert was homemade Brownies with Cashew Milk ice cream.

image1 (3)Cooking assistants included Adrienne Lasiter, Susan Rosenblatt and yours truly.  Our Shomrei teen helpers were Amalia, Louis and Jonah, plus Kayla from MHS Key Club, and Kendall and Sean from WOHS.  Of course Adrienne, Bonny and Joe made certain the evening ran smoothly.

About MESH:

The Carol Starr MESH Cafe at Shomrei (Montclair Emergency Services for the Homeless) is a cooperative effort between the MESH organization and local synagogues and churches.  Volunteers at each institution cook and serve hearty, nutritious meals for the hungry. Shomrei’s turn is on Tuesday nights. A good meal, and perhaps as important, social interaction and companionship offer respite to those who need it. Please help fulfill this crucial mitzvah by volunteering.
