MESH Report Oct 29, 2019
From Captain Lynne Kurzweil:
On a drizzly Tuesday evening we welcomed 24 grateful guests to the Carol Starr MESH Cafe at Shomrei. Six takeaway meals were also provided. Chef Lynne Kurzweil whipped up a healthy and filling meal beginning with Tuna/Egg Salad with Crudités and Chips, followed by Tuscan Tilapia with Cannelini Beans, Tomatoes and Spinach served with Brown Basmati Rice and Garlic Bread. Dessert was Honeydew, Strawberries, Blueberries and Raspberries and Pecan Melt-away Cookies.
Helpers were abundant! Beryl Hiller, JT and Jonah handily helped prepare the bulk of the meal. Susan Rosenthal was on hand to assist with all tasks including prep and cleanup. JT also readily took to the sink to help Susan with dish and pot washing. Miles, Januz and Lucy, MESH Chaplain Intern, worked the front of the house with serving. Wonderful MESH staffers Joe, Bonny and K’hari made sure the evening moved along smoothly.
With the exception of 11/19, we have no Cooks or Captains on the schedule. Please check your calendars and sign up at: shomrei.org/mesh.
About MESH:
The Carol Starr MESH Cafe at Shomrei (Montclair Emergency Services for the Homeless) is a cooperative effort between the MESH organization and local synagogues and churches. Volunteers at each institution cook and serve hearty, nutritious meals for the hungry. Shomrei’s turn is on Tuesday nights. A good meal, and perhaps as important, social interaction and companionship offer respite to those who need it. Please help fulfill this crucial mitzvah by volunteering.
