MESH Report Nov 30, 2021

Another outstanding meal was prepared by Chef Fern Heinig.  Fern cooked at home in advance, double wrapped and brought the fixings for 20 kosher meals to Shomrei for warming and packing.

Main course was Fern’s famous meatballs, homemade green bean and potato salad and homemade coleslaw. Chanukah cookies, clementines, a water bottle and some yummy croissant rolls baked by Collin completed the meal.  Fern also included a Kind Bar for snack or breakfast.  Three of the meals included falafel in place of meatballs to accommodate our vegetarian MESH guests.
Longtime teen helper, Jonah, assisted Lynne Kurzweil and Aileen Grossberg with warming, sorting and packing the Grab and Go Meals.  MESH Staffer, Joe Tyson, picked  up the bags at Shomrei and brought them to the Unitarian Church parking lot where the meals were distributed.

About MESH:

The Carol Starr MESH Cafe at Shomrei (Montclair Emergency Services for the Homeless) is a cooperative effort between the MESH organization and local synagogues and churches. While in-person service has been discontinued, donations from each institution are being used to provide hearty, nutritious meals for the hungry. Shomrei’s turn is on Tuesday nights.
