World Zionist Congress Voting Results

Mercaz USA, the Conservative/Masorti Movement slate nearly doubled its votes from the 2020 campaign to 28,000. This resulted in Mercaz acquiring 19 seats in the World Zionist Congress (WZC) this year.

There are a total of 155 seats, most of which were acquired by various Orthodox parties. The Reform movement remains the single largest American party with 33 seats. Fortunately the Reform & Mercaz movements work together to achieve their shared goals of promoting liberal Judaism by utilizing WZC  funds to support their vital institutions in Israel & in the US.

This year, multiple new Ultra Orthodox slates were introduced and it was alleged that 6 of the slates engaged in fraudulent voting. Instead of disqualifying the slates, the governing arm of the WZC chose to invalidate 10% of the votes cast by the 6 parties.

We remain grateful for the Mercaz movement’s strong voting campaign. We’re very grateful for the leadership of Sol Bernstein, our Shomrei captain, who significantly increased our synagogue votes through his tireless leadership! Due to the efforts of Sol and others, the Conservative Movement will receive increased funding to support American & Israeli institutions as well as camp and college campus programming when the WZC convenes at the end of October!
