Getting Back Your Reading Groove
Notes From the Lampert Library
I was listening to NPR the other day as I usually do when I’m in the car. Unfortunately, because my trips are brief, listening to pieces is like coming late to a dinner party-and then leaving early.
However, this particular middle-of-the-piece report really caught my attention because it was about summer reading. The gist of the piece was that many of us don’t have time during the hectic months of September to June to dig into those books we might want to read. However, summer is more relaxed; there seems to be more leisure time
Summer’s a good time to revive that reading habit and catch up on books you may have missed or want to reread.
And how does one get back into the reading habit? I always tell the kids that reading, like any skill, takes practice. If you are out of the habit, pick up a book, a nice meaty book, a best seller, a classic, anything you like. Make yourself slow down. Forget the rest of the world, the phone ringing, the email pinging, the kids yelling. It may be hard, but once you’ve gotten through that first book and regained that reading skill, the next book will be easier.
So, enjoy reviving your reading habit and feed that inner reader with some of these fiction (old and new) good reads from the Lampert Library.
Next week the focus will be on non-fiction.
