Purim Simcha Band Plays Its Heart Out

IMG_1476

For the sixth year in a row, the multi-generational Simcha Band played our hearts out at our annual Purim celebration. Setting the lively tone for the Costume Parade and then playing in between chapters of the Megillah, the band added a new dimension to its name “Simcha” Band! When the Megillah readers chanted Haman’s name, the band successfully drowned out his name.

unnamedSpecial thanks to everyone who makes this band possible. First and foremost, Conductor Mark Weinstein brings out the best in all the musicians. He is patient and professional and strikes the right balance between the band having fun and making music. Our woodwind section was strong with saxophone players Eli, Elliot and Rob Brumer and new band member playing flute, Amanda Seeff-Charny. Welcome Amanda!

unnamed (1)Also thanks to our solid drummers Sam and Alex. Our wonderful string section included violinists Mike and David Halbfinger and cellist Zeke. Carney Mimms joined us on percussion instruments at the last minute. Adina, Mark’s grand-daughter visiting from North Dakota, also kept the beat for us at the last minute. Adina – thanks for joining us and come back again soon.

Finally, thanks to Sarah Steindel, Marge, Heather, Lily, all the office and custodial staff who help with the behind-the-scenes work. Andy Silver is always available for computer help and John Lasiter is the best publicity agent any band could have. A special thanks to Rabbi Greenstein who sings with the band and makes every note that much more beautiful and meaningful.
