Author: Rabbinic Intern Jacob Lipkin

Jacob Lipkin is a fifth-year rabbinical student at the Jewish Theological Seminary, graduating in May 2026 with ordination, an M.A. in Hebrew Bible, and certification in Spiritual Care and Counseling. He is excited to return for a second year as Shomrei’s rabbinic intern, focusing on adult education, pastoral care, and lifecycle support. Jacob has served as a chaplain with older adults through the Jewish Association Serving the Aging, developed counseling and grief-support programs in the Bronx, and interned with Nativ, Cornell Hillel, and Camp Ramah. Originally from the Bay Area and a Stanford graduate, he lives on the Upper West Side with his wife, Shira, and loves Broadway, the outdoors, reading, and cooking vegan meals.

Blessed are You, Hashem our God, Ruler of the World, who frees captives.

It might surprise you to hear, especially for those of you who have been gracious enough to give graciously of yourselves to Shomrei, that the most difficult professional challenge of my career did not take place in a synagogue. The most difficult work situation I’ve faced, and this is surprising to me as well, did not even include Jews! (more…)
