MESH Report, Sept 8, 2026
Shomrei’s mighty MESH crew is back in full swing. The congenial and efficient team of Linda Wieseneck, Joan Zief, Leslie Billet and Lynne Kurzweil whipped up a late summer BBQ meal for 50 that included Martin”s Turkey Burgers garnished with lettuce and tomato, baked beans and semi-homemade coleslaw. We added clementines and a chocolate-dipped biscotti for dessert and, of course, a water bottle. Lynne and Leslie delivered the meals, along with some leftovers from the weekend.
We learned from Joe Granger, MESH Executive Director, that MESH has signed an agreement with Union Baptist Church to continue using their facility for the next 6 months. MESH is still searching for a more permanent home.
As we’ve done for the last couple of years, Shomrei will continue to provide 50 meals to MESH twice monthly on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month, September through June. During July and August, we take a break from cooking, but we still provide funding for the meals twice monthly during the summer hiatus.
Please consider signing up to help in this important mitzvah. Go to www.shomrei.org/mesh or follow the Volunteer prompts on the Shomrei website.

About MESH
Shomrei thanks the Carol Starr MESH Fund for helping to underwrite these meals. MESH (Montclair Emergency Services for Hope) is a community-wide cooperative effort between local synagogues and churches.
Volunteer at Shomrei
Shomrei provides 50 meals to MESH on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month. We need volunteers to help prepare and pack the food. For those interested in volunteering who are not available on Tuesday afternoons, we are brainstorming different ways to make it work. Let us know what would work for you.

Additionally, each Monday afternoon, we deliver any usable food leftover from Kiddish to MESH.
Volunteer at the (Temporary) MESH Site
Volunteers are also welcome to help serve food 6 nights a week, Monday through Saturday, 4:30-6:30 pm at the MESH site. Due to a burst pipe at the MESH site at 619 Bloomfield Ave, MESH will be meeting temporarily at the Union Baptist Church.
